Giants DT Cofield expects to stay in New York

The New York Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield does not seem to worry about his future with the team although he is turning to be a free agent restricted by a potential lack of a new collective bargaining agreement. He is expecting and confident that he could continue wearing the Giants jersey no matter what kind of contract the Giants would offer to retain him.

"I’ll be around, I’ll be working out, and I love being with the Giants," Cofield told the Newark, N.J., Star-Ledger. "I wish it was a long-term thing. But the opportunity to be there for one year is a great opportunity."

The four-year starter has always been a reliable and hard-working man in Giants’ interior line rotation. Being an important part of new defensive coordinator Perry Fewell’s 4-3 scheme, it is just reasonable for Cofield to believe he will be retained by the Giants.
