Veteran OT Sims returned to 49ers on a one-year contract

The San Francisco 49ers has brought back veteran offensive tackle Barry Sims with a one-year contract as part of the plan of bringing some continuity to a unit that was plagued by injury last season. That is to say, Sims could still play a fill-in role that he played for the 49ers last season.

“Yes, I assume that would be the case, to provide depth and with my experience, be able to play both sides and really help the younger guys develop a little quicker,” Sims said. “We have such a great group of guys, especially on the offensive line, which I really look forward to working with those guys.”

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Sims has been wearing NFL jerseys for 11 years with the last two being spent with the 49ers. Appearing in 30 games and making 15 starts, he had eight starts at right tackle in 2008 as replacement to injured Jonas Jennings and seven starts last season replacing Joe Staley, who was sidelined with a knee injury.
