In order to get one guy to replace the injured Walt Harris quickly, the 49ers signed Bly to a one-year contract on Thursday. Bly was among the mystery cornerbacks who visited the San Francisco 49ers earlier.
The 49ers' GM Scot McCloughan told that Bly, a Pro Bowler is the best one to fill the void left by Pro Bowl caliber player Walt Harris after he got hurt this week. He said that tremendous productivity and proven durability are the two quality they saw on the two Pro Bowler, which are needed to compete at a high level in the NFL. Bly will have to started his playing in the 49ers soon so that he can get acquainted quickly with new system, new coaches and new teammates.
Tarell Brown and Shawntae Spencer will also be competitors for the starting spot opposite Nate Clements.
